Holland powers Bulldogs to doubleheader split with Hawks
SANDPOINT — Malaki Smith and Talon Dewey combined to hold the Hawks to just three runs in the opener, leading the Bulldogs to a doubleheader split in 4A Inland Empire League baseball on Tuesday at sunny War Memorial Field.
The Bulldogs (10-11, 3-5 4A IEL) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings in the opener, more than enough run support to cruise to an 8-3 win, the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Hawks since 2012. Caleb Edlund had two hits and a triple in the opener, as the Bulldogs played sharp and loose.
“The energy that we brought,” said Bulldogs head coach Scott Fitchett of what he liked most from his team in the win. “We had the mentality of having fun. We’ve done the work, and just enjoyed the moment.”
