Sandpoint Junior All-Stars fall to Oregon
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A slow start proved costly for the Sandpoint Junior All-Star team, which lost 17-4 to Oregon in the second round of pool play at the Western Regional All-Star Tournament Friday morning in Vancouver.
Sandpoint fell behind 8-0 in the third inning, before staging a rally and cutting the lead to 8-4 with a four-run inning. Alex Stockton crushed a two-RBI triple to key the rally, launching a ball that one-hopped into the fence right below the 370 foot sign, one of the furthest hit balls in the tournament thus far.
For the second straight day, offense was tough to come by for Sandpoint, which gets a day off today to rest up.
Next up is a date with Southern California, which won the tournament last year, on Sunday at 9 a.m. That team is coached by Eric Karros, a former Rookie of the Year who hit 284 home runs and drove in more than 1,000 runs in a solid pro career with the Dodgers and Cubs.
The final pool play game for Sandpoint will be against Washington, on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
