Calling all Wampus Cats

| August 14, 2015 7:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Clark Fork head coach Brian Arthun is inviting anyone interested to turn out for the 2015 football team, helping to ensure the team gets to play this season.

As the first week of practice begins this week, the Cats have just eight eligible players, and Arthun is encouraging anyone who might be interested to turn out, with no experience needed.

Last year the Cats struggled with numbers in White Star League play, including a game when they suited up just eight players against Timberline, which had 24 players. Undaunted, the Cats rolled to a 66-36 win.

Ideally, an eight man football team needs at least 16 players to hold any kind of scrimmage, and to have a bench when there are injuries. If anyone is considering playing in Clark Fork, now is the time to act.

“Clark Fork is a unique opportunity for boys to come out and get playing time,” said Arthun, whose team is slated to kick off the season on Aug. 28 when they host Noxon. “We have some good young talent. If we can get some more kids, that will make a huge difference.”

Anyone interested is encouraged to email Arthun at “brian.arthun@lposd.org.” Practices are Monday through Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the football field. Show up, learn the game and have a fun time.
