Portland trio extends Sandpoint community values to Portland

| August 19, 2015 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Lyf Gildersleeve is one week away from the end of a huge crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000 for his business.

The Flying Fish Company, a business originally started in Sandpoint in 1979 by his father Craig Gildersleeve, is having remarkable success in Portland, Ore. Flying Fish is known to be one of the leaders in the sustainable food revolution.

Raising capital through a crowdfunding campaign challenges an entrepreneur to be articulate about values and commitment to community. Small businesses stand to gain hundreds of thousands of dollars from individual backers. Gildersleeve assembled a team of Sandpoint natives to create a campaign that provided an insight to how a community can be supported through the art of small business.
