Reeves brothers claim pair of state golf titles

RUPERT — After younger brother Will Reeves fired rounds of 75 and 74 to win the boys 13-year-old division, the pressure was squarely on the shoulders of older brother Jack, who had yet to tee off for his second round at the state tournament.

Not to be outdone, Jack Reeves shot a two-over 73 on the heels of an opening 74 to win the 14-15 year-old division, giving the Sandpoint brothers a pair of state titles at the Idaho Golf Association Junior State Championships last weekend at the Rupert Country Club.

Jack Reeves, a sophomore at Sandpoint, beat a field of 29 other golfers from around the state by a comfortable margin of four strokes, adding another trophy to the golf résumé.

Will Reeves, an eighth grader at SMS, beat 16 other golfers to win his bracket by just one stroke, and each received a new Idaho State Championship bag with the win.

Brothers winning state titles in the same year is an incredibly rare feat, and while there is no official record, officials at the tournament have never seen two brothers hold titles at the same time.

“It was really fun to watch,” said dad Chuck Reeves. “Will played early and won his title before Jack teed off. That put some pressure on his brother.”
