City administrator OK'd

SANDPOINT – A city administrator will be hired for Sandpoint following the approval of the budget Wednesday evening.

The job will be posted Thursday and open until Sept. 25. The interviews will be held in early October with the chosen candidate at the Oct. 14 council meeting for approval. The position will have a set job description to ensure things get done in the city in a timely manner.

The salary for the position is about $101,868, and comes from the general fund, and the water and sewer funds equally. The city has been paying a penalty since 1978 for the deficit in the firefighter retirement fund.

This is the first year that the retirement fund is almost fully funded, so the city penalty has been reduced to about 5 percent. These funds will pay for the city administrator.
