SANDPOINT — More than 70 wildfires are burning in the state of Idaho, and hazardous winds and dry lightning are creating hazardous conditions all over Idaho.

The city of Sandpoint has experienced heavy smoke in the area from two fires nearby, the Parker Ridge Fire, northwest of Bonners Ferry, and the Clark Fork Complex Fires, which includes six fires near Clark Fork.

The Parker Ridge Fire has burned 6,222 acres, with about 27 percent contained. The fire grew Sunday and backed down into a tributary of Long Canyon Creek. Fire information officer Dan Scaife said the fire held for most of the weekend and the changes were not significant.

“It hasn’t really changed,” Scaife said. “It is sort of creeping around.”
