Schoening drops 26 as SHS downs Pendleton
PENDLETON, Ore. — Madi Schoening had another strong night in Pendleton, dropping in 26 points to lead Sandpoint to a 56-31 win over host Pendleton in the tournament opener on Friday night.
Schoening made 7 of 11 from the field and 10 of 11 from the line, to go with nine rebounds, five blocks and three steals for the Bulldogs (2-3), who won the same tournament last year.
“It was the Madi that we’re used to watching,” said assistant coach Will Love. “She got a couple of transition baskets early, and that got her going. They threw a lot of different defenses at her.”
Sophomore Grace Kirscher made her season debut, scoring 10 points, Taylor Ward added five points and four rebounds and BreLynn Converse three rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Bulldogs led 29-13 at halftime, led by a stingy defense.
“Our defense really sparked us,” said Ward. “We started pressing, and it got them.”
Sandpoint faces Clarkston in the championship today.
