SANDPOINT — A Bonner County hunter who fired on a decoy whitetail deer while illuminating it with artificial light during an Idaho Department of Fish & Game sting operation pleaded guilty on Friday.

Judge Penny Friedland sentenced Dale Forrest Tryban to 16 hours on the sheriff's labor program in lieu of jail time, court records indicate. The court also suspended Tryban's hunting privileges for one year.

Tryban, 32, was cited after conservation officers placed an artificial simulated animal along U.S. Forest Service Road No. 2697 in Vay on Oct. 23. Tryban was accused of illuminating the decoy with the headlamps on his all-terrain vehicle and firing on it while seated.
