| December 12, 2015 6:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Kyle Manzardo picked up a steal and game-winning layup with 20 seconds remaining in overtime, helping the Lake City Timberwolves get past the Sandpoint Bulldogs 47-45 in a nonleague boys basketball game on Friday night at Lake City High.

Lake City (2-2) got a pair of defensive stops in the final moments to seal the win.

Paul Sundquist scored 12 points, Kyle Perry 11 and Davan Norris returned to the lineup with nine points for Sandpoint (2-2), as the trio continue to find their games as they shift from football to basketball.

Sandpoint scored just two points in overtime, but posted a strong defensive effort in the loss.

Sandpoint hosts East Valley today at 6 p.m. at Les Rogers Court.

COEUR d’ALENE — Keara Simpson had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the 5A Timberwolves past the Bulldogs 54-17 in a nonleague game Friday night at Lake City High School.

Lauren Rewers had 12 points, four blocks and five assists for Lake City (5-0), which travels to Borah High to open the Timberlion tournament on Thursday. The Timberwolves had a game plan to stop Madi Schoening and Grace Kirscher, holding the high scoring duo to seven points.

“They (Sandpoint) hit a couple of shots early, but I thought we played really well from the four minute mark on,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “We focused on taking their shooters away and knowing where they were at.”

Riley Couch scored six points, making both of her shot from beyond the arc, and Schoening had four rebounds, two assists and two steals, for Sandpoint (3-5). Grace Hicks and Kirscher both added four points and three boards in defeat against one of the top 5A teams in the state.

Assistant coach Will Love said Sandpoint started the game strong, but seemed to struggle as the game progressed, and there is little margin for error against a team like Lake City.

“The girls beat their full court press. We did some good things early on, then their size really started to take over,” said Love. “Mentally we got a little down. We’ve got the veterans, but it’s still a young group.”
