Bulldogs take down Spartans in road dual win

PRIEST RIVER — The Bulldogs won 7-of-12 matches by way of pin as they rolled to a 66-18 nonleague win over Priest River in a wrestling dual on Tuesday night.

Scout Nash (126), Tucker Hall (132), Preston Bunty (138), Elijah Guthrie (160), Jake Williams (195), Zack Alamillo (220) and Justin Hopson (285) would all post six points with pins for Sandpoint (2-0).

“I thought the kids pretty much wrestled well straight through the lineup,” Bulldogs coach Mike Randles said. “We preach attack and the kids were like they should, which paid off with pins.”

Tanner Kohal squared off against Priest River’s Noah Jamison in pound-for-pound the match of the night at 145 pounds and the Bulldog came out on top with an exciting 12-5 decision in the overtime period. Mahonri Hunsaker (152) won on a 5-0 decision for the Bulldogs, who host Bonners Ferry on Thursday in the annual fight for the B-Cup, with JV action slated for 6 p.m. and the varsity following at 7 p.m.

Brandon Downs (98), Nate Nelson (113) and John Allen-Noble (120) won by pin for the Spartans (1-1), who travel to the Tri-State Wrestling Tournament this weekend.
