Tigers ride big fourth quarter to notch win over Bulldogs
SANDPOINT — Sandpoint head coach Duane Ward had a quick answer when asked what made the difference in the Bulldogs’ 58-50 loss to Timberlake in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.
“Turnovers and missed easy shots,” said Ward, whose team was close before Timberlake blew the game open with a 23 point fourth quarter. “We didn’t compete very well on the boards. Timberlake is a good ball club, and they were more aggressive.”
Madi Schoening had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals for the Bulldogs (3-7), Grace Kirscher added 13 points and three steals and Riley Couch made 4 of 6 from beyond the arc for most of her 16 points. Couch capped a run of five straight points with a slick baseline reverse layin to stake her team to a 40-38 lead early in the fourth quarter, but it was all Timberlake from there, starting with nine unanswered points to build a lead.
