Thunder make some noise in MCL hoops action

KOOTENAI — Shayne Jensen had three huge games recently, leading the Kootenai Thunder boys to two wins and one loss in Mountain Christian League basketball action.

Jensen tallied 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Thunder to a big 59-52 win over the Christian Heritage Patriots in an exciting back-and-forth affair. Jason Roop added 16 points, Tommy Blair six points and six boards, Mike Favor six points, Jimmy Soderberg four points and five rebounds, Peter Soderberg four points, six rebounds and three steals and Shepley Osman two points and two steals for the Thunder.

In a 48-35 win over Pullman, Jensen led the way with 12 points and eight boards, and Peter Soderberg filled the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Featuring solid depth, Jason Roop added nine points, Tommy Blair five points and three steals, Jimmy Soderberg four points and four boards, Ty Murray four points, Favor three assists and Osman two points.

In an earlier meeting with the Patriots, Jensen went off for 25 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough in a 51-44 loss, which they would later avenge with the aforementioned seven point win.

The Kootenai Thunder girls basketball team lost 44-23 to the Patriots, led by Machaela Montgomery with eight points and seven rebounds. Marian Soderberg added five points and five boards, Mackenzie Montgomery four and four, Gracie Jones three and three, McKenna Beck two and four, while Cassie Maras and Melina Smith combined for nine rebounds in the loss.

The Thunder girls bounced back to notch a 28-10 win over the Eagles. Montgomery posted eight points, six rebounds and six steals, Soderberg six points, four assists and seven steals and Mares and Montgomery four points and two boards each.

Finally, the Thunder fell 40-19 to the Patriots in a home game. Soderberg led the way in defeat with four points, four boards and three dimes, while Madison MacArthur added two points and three rebounds and Tara Jones two points in the loss.
