No. 2 ranked Trojans run past Bulldogs
SANDPOINT — Post Falls showed why it’s the No. 2 team in the state, getting to the rim almost at will and sharing the basketball, downing Sandpoint 69-29 on Thursday night in nonleague boys basketball at Les Rogers Court.
Dalton Thompson tallied 13 points and five boards and Max McCullough 11 points and four assists to lead the Trojans (18-1), who applied pressure from the start and raced out to a 35-8 halftime lead.
“I’m very happy with our effort,” said Trojans coach Mike McLean. “We came out focused and prepared, executing the things we want to do.”
Troy Mitton and Davan Norris combined for 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (6-10), who never seemed to find an offensive rhythm against a really quick and relentless defense.
“Post Falls is really good. We were a little bit intimidated and got off to a slow start and never recovered,” said Bulldogs head coach Kent Leiss. “We struggled with their pressure. They’re 18-1 for a good reason.”
It was a tough task for the Bulldogs, who were coming off a two week bye in the schedule. Leiss said the focus now is on bouncing back and looking to stay unbeaten in league, with a tough road test on Saturday in Moscow.
