BAYVIEW — Bones found by a hiker in a forest near Bayview on Wednesday were those of a human, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported on Friday.

The male hiker, who was hunting for antler sheds, found the bones off Cape Horn Road near Bayview.

KCSO Lt. Stu Miller said an estimated amount of time that the bones have been there hasn’t been determined, but they are likely from an adult of an unknown gender or race.

“According to detectives, they’ve been there for some time,” said Miller, adding that the bones no longer have muscle or flesh on them.
