Levy is worthy of community's support

| February 8, 2015 6:00 AM

The approaching school levy vote introduces discussion of what we want for our community. An environment that forms our teenagers into productive adults is essential. ALL of Lake Pend Oreille School District’s extracurricular activities are funded by the levy. This includes sports, academic clubs and cultural clubs. Self-discipline, grit and social intelligence are developed through these extracurricular experiences. Not only do these activities help our teens mature, they also keep our teens active and engaged in positive activities.

All teens want to challenge and test themselves. They crave new experiences. How would the absence of the activities provided by the school district change our community? Teens with nothing to do after school will find something to do — either good or bad. An absence of good choices is likely to be more costly to our community than the proposed levy. The desire for adventure will be followed. It is our responsibility as a community to provide positive opportunities. Supporting the levy is supporting our community.
