Bulldogs and Bears set to battle in championship

| February 11, 2015 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT β€” A district championship and berth at state will be at stake tonight, when the No. 1 seed Bulldogs and No. 2 seed Bears clash in the 4A Region 1 girls basketball championship game at North Idaho College.

The Bulldogs (12-8) went undefeated in 4A North play this season, and beat the Bears (10-11) by scores of 38-33 and 40-27 in the regular season. Moscow beat No. 3 seed Lakeland 32-18 on Monday in the tourney opener.

After torching Lakeland for a Sandpoint school record 49 points, it’s safe to say the Bears will employ a defense geared to stop, or at least contain, junior scoring guard Madi Schoening. Schoening also posted three 30 plus point games, and a pair of 28 point gems, emerging as one of the top scorers in the state.
