SANDPOINT — There’s a music-related quip that goes something like this: What’s the definition of a musician? It’s someone who puts a $5,000 instrument into a $500 car to go play a $50 gig.

Never having seen the vehicle Sandi Wilcox drives, I can’t attest to its actual value. Her instrument, on the other hand, would at least meet the price point in the joke. The real clincher, though, is that she travels great distances to play for free.

“I drive three hours for a two-hour rehearsal,” Wilcox said.
