Sandpoint residents need to take back the city

| February 19, 2015 6:00 AM

I have been studying the Sandpoint city employee payroll budget. It seems to me in light of the compensation some employees a the top of the ladder receive compared to those in the street department, for instance, that a hard look at existing pay schedules is in order.

Sandpoint does not need a city manager or city administrator. It needs a mayor and council responsive to ordinary, hard-working citizens and businesses that generate the majority of taxes. Things are out of hand! It seems many proposals are “rubber stamped” for a yes vote before council ever meets.

With the exception of Bob Camp, I rarely see other dissenting votes. Thanks Bob for standing your ground and representing the “regular folks” of Sandpoint.

Sandpoint businesses are moving to Ponderay and Kootenai or over the county line. The permits and related costs of building a house or opening a business discourage many.

Sandpoint citizens you must find City Council and mayoral candidates to run in the next election that represent you, not “special interests.”

A friend with a major business in the county recently said,”with Kootenai, Ponderay and the bypass I can avoid Sandpoint entirely.”

It should not be this way, Sandpoint residents take your town back with a new beginning, a new mayor and council.
