A shot of controversy?

SANDPOINT — There is no controversy with the fact that vaccines have saved or improved lives by the millions. Controversy only swirls around those in who forgo vaccinations out of fear and misinformation, say local doctors.

A simple fact is that vaccines, which include the much discussed measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, are second only to clean water for improving human health worldwide, including at home here in North Idaho.

The recent California-based measles outbreak shows, just as the Ebola outbreak did, that “we live in an increasingly well-traveled society,” said Dr. George DeLand of Sandpoint Pediatrics and Kaniksu Health Services.
