Technology, software add bright note to community's economy
SANDPOINT — In a very mixed year for the Bonner County economy, an unexpected industry — software and technology — is gaining greater importance.
The closure of Coldwater Creek this spring made 2014 a year of hand-wringing and planning for local economic development experts. As with most situations, however, there were plenty of silver linings to be found, and one of the brightest was the success software engineering, technology and Internet-based business. If 2014 marked the end of Sandpoint’s role as the home of a major clothing retailer, Sandpoint Planning and Community Development Director Jeremy Grimm hopes it will also herald the beginning of its status as a hub of the technology industry.
