Four Sandpoint shooters post trap score of 22

| January 15, 2015 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Mike Hunter, John Jaeger, Randy Poelstra and Doug Bottcher each carded a 22 to lead the Sandpoint Gun Club to a team score of 88 last Sunday at the Spokesman Review Trap Shoot.

In the event, five shooters line up 16 yards behind the trap house at one of five stations. Each shooter takes aim at five “birds” from each station, for a total of 25 attempts to his the target. The birds fly out at 42 miles per hour, traveling about 10 feet off the ground for more than 50 yards, with most shooters using a 12 gauge shotgun.

In the Big Sky Postal Shoot, Bottcher led the way with a 41, and the team tallied 161 overall. Poelstra, Hunter and Jerry Whitmire each scored 40 for Sandpoint.

The same rules apply at the Postal Shoot, except shooters take their score from the first round and add two to figure out their handicap yardage. For example, if they If shoot 20 out of 25 birds, they would add two for a 22 yard handicap. So instead of being 16 yards behind the trap house, they are now 22 yards behind it.

Any and all shooters are welcome to participate. For more information, call Louis Dash at 290-4018.
