Taking to the airwaves
SANDPOINT — If you’re a listener of Sandpoint’s local community radio station, KRFY-FM, you may have heard a new, youthful voice on the air.
That voice belongs to Sandpoint Waldorf School eighth-grader Maren Andrick, who has been serving as an intern at the station since October. The internship is a rite of passage for all Waldorf students, who are required to individually pursue and immerse themselves in a business or profession in the community. The process as well as the internships are intended to strengthen students’ self-confidence and to establish a mentoring relationship with an adult. It broadens their horizons, according to eighth-grade teacher Julie McCallan, who has been with her students since the first grade.
