Wampus Cats fall short against Miners

| January 24, 2015 6:00 AM

WALLACE — Clark Fork came to play in a North Star League tilt on Friday night, but ran out of gas late in the game en route to a 60-46 loss to the Miners at Wallace High School.

Spencer Jeffres had his best game of the season for the Wampus Cats (4-8, 2-3 NSL), tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds and hitting three long range bombs. Geoffry Boudousquie added a double-double with 14 points, 10 boards and three swats, Eich Anderson scored 10 and Brandan Bowen had four steals and three assists in the loss.

The Cats erupted for 21 points in the second quarter, and held a one point lead late in the third quarter before things started to fall apart. Head coach Corey Vogel praised the play of his team for much of the game.

“Everybody played in rhythm, it was fun to watch. It was the best we’ve played together all year,” he said. “Spencer was on fire and we stayed right with them.”

Dylan Browning scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Miners (7-7, 2-2 NSL), doing much of his damage down low. Despite the loss, Vogel took away some positives moving forward.

“It was nice to have a lead in this gym in the third quarter. Then our confidence waned and we couldn’t recover” he described. “If we play like we did in the first half, we can play with anyone in this league.”
