SANDPOINT — The City Council will be considering the merits of creating a new city administrator position at a budget discussion tonight during the council’s regular meeting.

According to the job description, the administrator would be responsible for carrying the torch of the mayor and City Council by providing leadership and guidance to department heads and people outside Sandpoint.

Compensation for the position would range from $47.47 per hour, not including benefits, according to city Treasurer Shannon Syth, to $61.14 per hour at the high end, according to Mayor Carrie Logan. That wage translates to between $98,113 to $127,171 per year, based on a 40-hour week.

Syth noted that’s the going rate for city administrators, based on a salary survey by an independent firm hired annually by the city. The wage for police chief or city attorney starts at $37.84 per hour, she said.
