Jail visitation hard to navigate, off-putting

| July 7, 2015 7:00 AM

I recently wanted to visit a friend who landed himself in jail, and was quite distressed at what I encountered. If this is how visitors are received in jail in Sandpoint I really do wonder how prisoners are treated in jail in counties with a much higher crime rate.

What you encounter is steel doors and visitor windows which you cannot use to visit — everything goes via video. The problem is there is nobody there to direct you, not even visible signs that invite you to start the process. The adjacent sheriff’s office apparently has nothing to do with the jail so no help there.
