Stockton, Pettit combine on no-hitter

Preston Pettit and Alex Stockton teamed up to throw a no-hitter, leading the Sandpoint Juniors All-Stars to a 3-1 win over Lakeland on Tuesday in the district tournament at Pine St. Field.

Stockton struck out eight hitters in three and one-third innings of work, and Preston Pettit was sharp in closing things out, striking out six. The lone Lakeland run scored on an error.

Declan Plummer had an RBI double and an RBI groundout, with the third run scoring on an overthrow to first base, and Stockton and Payton Cox were the only other Sandpoint players with hits.

Dillon Mitton brought solid defense to the hot corner, making a couple of defensive gems to to help preserve the no-hitter.

Sandpoint will face the winner of Thursday’s Lakeland/Post Falls game (5:30 p.m. at Pine St. Field), on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Pine St. Field in the championship.
