Crews make progress on Priest Lake fires
PRIEST LAKE — Firefighters continue to combat the Granite and Blacktail fires by any means necessary and the tactics have helped crews get a better handle on the blazes sparked by lightning last Monday.
“Where it was safe and opportunities existed, crews directly fought the fire,” said Jill Cobb, information officer for the Priest Lake Ranger District. “In other areas of the fire, crews used indirect fire tactics.”
At the Granite Fire old roads were cleared to serve as indirect fireline, dozer line for the fire was completed and the final piece of fireline along the eastern flank was scouted out and initial falling of trees began on Wednesday, according to a press release from the ranger district.
