HOPE — Sandpoint resident Jeremy R. Heckert, 38, was reported missing and presumed drowned Friday afternoon after allegedly jumping from a boat without a life vest, according to a Bonner County Sheriff’s Office new release issued Monday afternoon.

BCSO marine and patrol deputies, and the Bonner County Dive Team arrived on scene and attempted to locate Heckert, but where unsuccessful. The search is ongoing, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office did not respond to messages for additional information by press time.

Heckert is the father of two boys, who live in the state of Montana with their mother, according to family members, who classified him as a poor swimmer.

“Jeremy is religious about life jackets,” sister-in-law Melissa Heckert said.
