Former Bulldog primed for big college soccer season
SANDPOINT — Former Sandpoint Striker and Sandpoint Bulldog soccer standout Tanner Williams helped run the Art of Finishing Camp at Farmin Stidwell last week, which drew more than 60 area youth for a week-long skills camp.
As an instructor for a skills camp, you could do a lot worse than Williams, one of the most talented high school players to come out of the state of Idaho in recent memory.
Last season as a sophomore forward at Evergreen State College, the speedy 5-10 Williams led the Geoducks in scoring with 10 points, blasting four goals and dishing out two assists in 16 games. His stellar play earned him a spot on the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference all-league second team.
His previous college stint was in 2011, when he scored three goals and tallied six assists for Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. Before that, Williams was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American while at high school in Sandpoint, and a nationally ranked prep player.
He enters his junior season at the NAIA college in Olympia, Wash., with high expectations, looking to put his superior soccer skills to work again at the college level this fall.
