Rehkow first-team choice on Sun Belt preseason team
MOSCOW — University of Idaho junior punter Austin Rehkow is the first-team choice as the punter for the Sun Belt’s preseason all-conference team. He is joined in the preseason recognition by two seniors - linebacker Marc Millan and defensive end Quinton Bradley.
Rehkow, a finalist for the 2014 Ray Guy Award and a Walter Camp All-American, had the nation’s second-best punting after last year. His career average of 47.2 yards per kick is the Idaho career record and he is the NCAA active career leader. From Spokane’s Central Valley High School, he set the NCAA freshman record in 2013 as well as the single-season record for a player who punted 75 or more times. He has a career long of 73 yards and 53 of his 119 career punts was at least 50 yards.
Millan, from Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School by way of Santa Ana College, enters his third season at Idaho after leading the Vandals in total tackles each of the last two seasons. He has 192 career stops, which includes 102 last year. He had a career-high of 18 total tackles (17 solo) against Arkansas State last year. He ranked 24th nationally in solo tackles last year and 33rd in total tackles.
Bradley, from San Antonio’s Roosevelt High School, begins his second season as a full-time starter and fourth in the defensive front rotation with 16 career tackles for loss and 10 career sacks along with 93 total tackles.
The Vandals kickoff the 2015 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 3, against Ohio University. Kickoff for the 6 p.m. game, which is Idaho’s Cancer Awareness Game, at the Kibbie Dome.
