Stand down not being held
SANDPOINT — There will be no Veterans Stand Down in Bonner County this year.
For the past eight years, homeless veterans have been coming to the stand down around Fathers Day. However, it’s become more than local veterans groups can handle.
“We just don’t have the volunteers to help us,” Vietnam Veterans of America member Russ Fankell said, noting it takes as many as 200 people to set things up and tear it down. “It’s a lot of work.”
“This would have been nine years,” he said.
