Washington wins team title at LPOSD elementary track and field meet

| June 6, 2015 7:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Hundred of elementary students from the Lake Pend Oreille School District took part in the annual track and field meet at Clark Fork High School.

For pure energy and fun, there might not be a better sporting event in North Idaho. Coaches, students and volunteers from Clark Fork help run the event, which saw 19 of a possible 24 meet records fall in the fifth year of the event.

“Frank and Jan Hammersley and Lewis and Patty Speelmon have been helping since the beginning. They have and will continue to be the backbone of this event and they are tremendously appreciated,” said event coordinator K.C. MacDonald, who started the popular youth meet five years ago. “Thanks to coaches, school district, Clark Fork High School staff and students, and parents that jumped in to help out. A total community effort.”

After Sagle won the past two meets, Washington took back the traveling team trophy with a strong performance. Hope, Farmin-Stidwell, Northside, Southside and Kootenai Elementary students had to qualify from their respective schools to earn a spot in the meet.
