Bay Trail Fun Run raises more than $13,000

| June 11, 2015 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — With scoring hot weather and some of the best scenery around serving as the backdrop, a record 344 participants hit the trails on Sunday during the third annual Bay Trail Fun Run in Sandpoint, taking part in 5K and 10K races.

With the help of more than 50 volunteers, everything went smoothly, with more than $13,000 raised for the Friends of the Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail. Race director Nancy Dooley, or the Idaho Conservation League, called this year’s event a great success, lauding the generosity of sponsors and donations from businesses, as well as all the runners/walkers.

One large group of walkers paid to walk the trail, even though they can do it free on any day, just to show their support for the community trail. Dooley also praised the tireless work and effort of volunteer coordinator and board member Judy Thompson.

Finan Lund Anderson won the male 5K race in 18:32, Nicole Black the female 5K in 22:34, Kyle Wimpenny the male 10K in 40:13 and Bryanna Petrie the female 10K in 40:38.

The event was hosted by the Friends of the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail, Idaho Conservation League and Trinity at City Beach Restaurant.
