Medical only versus fire-based EMS

| June 21, 2015 7:00 AM

This letter is to clear up the differences between Bonner County EMS and Selkirk Fire as well inform the public on the types of emergency medical services currently offered so you, the taxpayer, can make an educated decision.

I have been a career firefighter with Sandpoint (now Selkirk) for 13 years and can honestly tell you our current system is broken, redundant, and can be vastly improved on. It is time to consider fire-based EMS and keep an ambulance at its current location of Sagle Fire. Fire-based EMS is when the ambulance is based out of the fire station with employees trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians providing transport. This is currently the model used at the Sagle Fire Station that commissioners want to strip on July 1.
