SANDPOINT — School may be out for Bonner County students, but for some the learning continues, but in a different classroom environment: the back of a horse.

All this week, 75 Bonner County 4-H equestrians will be at the Bonner County Fairgrounds for the 14th annual Horse Camp, a multi-discipline program that teaches kids riding skills using a variety of hands-on activities.

And in the process they learn a host of life-skills as well. What do they learn?

“Responsibility in its purest form,” according to former long-time Horse Camp veteran Whitney Urmann. “Every morning, the first thing I remember is feed your horse before you feed yourself. Make sure your horse has water before you do.”
