Local pilot killed in Alaskan plane crash
HOPE — Local pilot Bryan Krill died Thursday when the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter turboprop float plane he was piloting crashed in what was described as unsettled weather about 25 miles northeast of Ketchikan, Alaska, during a charter sightseeing tour.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The plane was carrying eight passengers on a shore excursion from the Holland America Line cruise ship Westerdam, which was docked in Ketchikan. The plane slammed into a cliff about 800 feet above a lake near Misty Fjord at about 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the NTSB. There were no survivors.
The flight was sold through the cruise line.
