District must better manage its money
I find it interesting that the cost of educating students in Bonner County has gone from $8,500 per student in 2008 to $9,500 per student in 2013. That is a 12-percent increase during tough economic times. (Idaho Department of Education website.)
Are you aware that the average cost to educate a student enrolled in a private school is $2,500 per student? That is 75 percent less than the public schools in Bonner County. I also found it interesting that many teachers employed by private schools do not have paid benefits. Our district teachers, who have 100-percent paid benefits, have an average salary of $46,000. Yet, Bonner County’s average salary for all occupations is only $31,000.
