SANDPOINT — February may have been a short month, but the gymnasts at S.T.E.P. (Seeking To Encourage People) were busy performing at Sandpoint’s Winter Carnival and competing at Monkey Madness and Great West Gym Fest in Hayden and Coeur d’Alene.

At Monkey Madness Meet on Feb. 14, the team brought home two first-place finishes for the gold and bronze level teams. The silver team brought home a second-place finish.

At the meet, Elli Nye, a bronze level gymnast at S.T.E.P., achieved the highest All-Around score of the day. Laurel Larson, another Bronze level gymnast, earned the highest floor score of the day. Madelynn Papaleo, a S.T.E.P. silver level gymnast, received the highest beam score of the day.

The following weekend the S.T.E.P. gymnasts competed at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, earning a Bronze team first place finish and a Silver team second place finish at the very competitive Gym Fest.

The team now sets its sights and spirit toward the Inland Northwest Championship, which takes place today in Spokane, and then heads to Pocatello for the Idaho State Gymnastics Championships on March 27.
