SANDPOINT — Sometimes, a name just doesn’t translate to a new country. The business moniker long used by Rainer Michaelis is, for most Americans, both hard to spell and hard to say: Klangsphäre.

“That’s still my name — in Switzerland,” Michaelis said.

Here in the states, the music therapist calls his practice Heaven of Sound. A visit to his home office south of Sandpoint shows that the name is perfectly suited to what Michaelis does for a living. In one room, the walls are lined with shelf upon shelf of Tibetan singing bowls, Burma gongs and tubular bells. Also on display are the Native American flutes, shamanic drums, tuned boxes, xylophones and sound wheels that are handcrafted in his workshop.
