What have railroads actually done for us?

Another train of oil tank cars recently derailed, this time in Illinois where three of the oil tank cars exploded. People were evacuated around that area for one mile. There were no injuries in this derailment.
Yet we in Bonner County still allow these unsafe cars to roll through our populated areas daily. Now the railroad want to build another bridge next to the existing railroad bridge that crosses the lake feeding right into Sandpoint so they can add more trains with oil tank cars and open coal cars spewing toxic coal dust everywhere they travel.
