Stevens, Dick set to lead Wampus Cat golf team
CLARK FORK — If the first round of the season is any indication, the Stevens brothers are primed for a solid year while leading the Clark Fork golf team in 2015.
Wyatt Stevens, a senior, carded a 48 for third place overall at the season-opening golf invitational in Bonners Ferry, while Wade Stevens, a freshman, shot a 52 in his varsity debut.
Along with senior Mary Dick, the lone female on the team, head coach Brian Arthun has some state hopes in his first season after taking over for K.C. MacDonald.
“This year we have a couple of seniors who I am looking to do some good things,” said Arthun. “I feel like if things go well, both Mary and Wyatt can qualify for state this year. Both are in their fourth year and bring a lot of experience to the table.”
The seniors will be counted on to provide a lot of leadership this year, as the team also has four freshman, three of which are relatively new to the game.
After Wade Stevens, who has played golf before as evidenced by his opening 52, freshmen Drew Hammack, T.J. Henderson and Bryant Moore represent the building blocks for the future. Hammack shot an 82 and Moore an 86 in their first nine holes on varsity.
“I’m really excited about our four freshman this year,” said Arthun. “They are a really good group of kids that down the road could develop into a really good team. They’re pretty raw, but are working really hard at honing their skills.”
Clark Fork is at Priest River on April 7 and Wallace on April 8 after Spring Break.
