Bulldog distance runners earn wins at All Star Meet
POST FALLS — With winds approaching 15 to 20 miles an hour at the start of the District 1 All-Star Meet at Post Falls High, it was important to have a strategy for how to turn that into an advantage on Thursday afternoon. The meet features the top athletes from all of the high schools in North Idaho, regardless of classification.
A trio of Bulldog harriers topped their events, as Mark Kennaly won the 400, Hannah Davidson the 800 and Mikhaela Woodward the 1,600, rounding into form with districts right around the corner.
Sandpoint assistant head coach Angie Brass praised Davidson, a freshman who is having a strong season.
“She was leading most of the race and holding everyone off with her strong kick,” said Brass. “Mikhaela was back to her winning ways, running away from the field and winning in 5:25.”
Paige Dumars continues to improve in the shot put, finishing second in a strong showing, and Madi Schoening finished second in the long jump for the top field event finishes.
Jacob Graham was second in the 3,200, and Sam Powell shaved 14 seconds off his PR to finish fourth for the Bulldogs, and Kenny Kovalchuk (800) and Claire Pierce (3,200) also notched top three finishes.
Qualifying for the state track and field meet in all classifications is next weekend, with the 5A/4A meet at Coeur d’Alene High on Thursday and at Lewiston next Friday.
Team scores were not kept for the all-star meet.
