Bulldog boys fall short of state at district tourney

| May 5, 2015 7:00 AM

POST FALLS — Freshman Jack Reeves broke 80 for the third time this season, firing a 76 to lead Sandpoint, which fell short to Lakeland on Monday during the 4A Region 1 golf tournament at the Links.

Sophomore Dylan Dufenhorst had his best round of the season at 78, but the host Hawks had three players at 75 or lower, and earned the lone team berth to state, as well as the top three individuals. Damien Fitzpatrick shot 85, Nick Crowley 88 and Lake Wilks 88 to round out the Bulldog boys.

“Jack missed going to state by one stroke,” said Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharp, who felt the short game was the difference. “Lakeland played extremely well, we just had lots of putts. The boys were just a little bit off around the greens.”

Alexis Creighton and Nina McDonnell each carded 100 to lead the Bulldog girls, while Hannah Hurst shot 112, Caroline Hawkins 113 and Maddie Albertson 122.

“For the girls, that was the lowest team score of the year,” said Tharp, noting most of his boys and girls teams are underclassmen. “I’m encouraged for next year. Maybe things will be brighter next year.”

Lakeland advances to state, which will be held at The Links next Monday and Tuesday.
