Thin turnout marks consolidated election

SANDPOINT — According to county officials, Tuesday’s election didn’t get many Bonner County voters excited enough to get out and vote.

“It was a thin turnout,” Bonner County Clerk Mike Rosedale said. “We were surprised.”

Other than the threat of a fire that turned out to be a malfunctioning light bulb, things were relatively quiet.

Tuesday’s consolidated elections involved a variety of positions and issues, from school board trustees to a general tax rate increase in the city of Kootenai.

Joel Molander and Geraldine Lewis each expressed relief that the sometimes contentious Lake Pend Oreille School District board of trustees election was over. Both viewed the results — in their favor — as confirmation that voters were, as Lewis put it, “paying attention, and they care about education.”
