Bonner Partners in Care spreads safety net

SANDPOINT — Despite the advent of the Affordable Care for America Act, millions of Americans still go without health insurance or have been sold insurance with such onerous deductibles that the coverage is useless to them.

They are, in the main, lower-income families and those living in poverty. It’s also a population that is preyed upon by firms that promise low cost insurance and deliver almost nothing in return.

In Bonner County, the same population has an advocate in the health care field. A group of advocates, in point of fact — the volunteers who work with an organization called the Bonner Partners in Care Clinic.

“We’re a safety net clinic,” said volunteer provider and board member Nichole Grimm. “We see the uninsured and the underinsured.

“If you have a dollar in your pocket, great,” she added. “If you have nothing in your pocket, we will still provide excellent medical care. It’s health care for people who fall through the cracks.”
