Shelter pups out of quarantine

| May 28, 2015 7:00 AM

PONDERAY — The Panhandle Animal Shelter reports that 10 puppies diagnosed with canine distemper have been released from quarantine and will soon be in new homes.

Each puppy went through a minimum of four tests to ensure they were no longer contagious and safe to be placed in homes.

“This process was extremely stressful. We had two puppies die initially before we had a diagnosis, which was heartbreaking. With the help and support of our area veterinarians we were able to provide the pups with the supportive care they needed to help them survive,” said Mandy Evans, executive director of the shelter.

Evans said the puppies’ release from quarantine made for a happy week at the shelter.
