SANDPOINT — The Bonner Community Food Bank is about 150 turkeys shy of its 900-turkey goal so that all area residents can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

“It's a special time of year and we want our clients to be fed,” said Debbie Love, assistant director.

Alice Wallace, executive director, said the food bank has about 750 turkeys currently, and it needs 900 to ensure that everyone in need has the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal. Sandpoint area volunteer firefighters dropped off 137 turkeys on Wednesday, 700 pounds of food, and $2,000. She said the food bank is very grateful for the support.

Love said they will continue to take turkeys past the 900 goal. She said 200 of those turkeys are sent to the Priest River Food Bank, to help out that community as well. They also give turkeys to clients throughout the holiday season.
