PAS partners with ASPCA

PONDERAY — Improvements at Panhandle Animal Shelter have opened up new opportunities for a partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

PAS has been improving vaccine protocol changes, housing limits and animal movement within the facility, on recommendations from the University of Wisconsin Shelter Medicine Program, said Mandy Evans, executive director for PAS. After working with other organizations for the past year, the shelter was put in touch with ASPCA.

Evans said the ASPCA visited the shelter in October, inspecting its operations, looking at PAS to be an ASPCA official receiving shelter. Shelters must pass a full onsite inspection to meet the requirements of the ASPCA program.

Evans said the shelter does not transport dogs much, but the partnership will allow for dogs to be brought in from other areas after having an inspection for disease or illnesses. The animals can then be adopted out in North Idaho.
