Idaho is better than this hate-filled nonsense

| November 29, 2015 6:00 AM

Between 1845 and 1852, over a million Irish people died and 1 to 1.5 million fled the economic genocide of the British. My ancestors were among them. Catholics were considered a dangerous terrorist group by many Americans. Church documents were quoted to prove that all Catholics were a sub-human, mindless army for the Pope.

Yet America didn’t close its border. They scrutinized the Irish, but unlike many other countries they remained true to their core belief that religion didn’t make you un-American, and personal action trumped church attendance.
